Cookies
A cookie is - according to Wikipedia - a small piece of data sent from a website and stored in a user's web browser while a user is browsing a website. When the user browses the same website in the future, the data stored in the cookie can be retrieved from the website to notify the website of the user's previous activity. Cookies are designed to be a trusted mechanism for websites to remember the status of the website or the activity that the user has done in the past. This may include clicking on specific buttons, linking or logging pages that the user visited months or even years ago. More information on this topic can be found at Wikipedia.
Purpose of storing and gaining access to cookies:
- Website personalization (for example: saving font size, prospect of publishing a web page, or publishing a template)
- Save user data or decisions (for example: you do not need to enter login and password on each site, remember the login details on the next visit, keeping track of the products added to the cart)
- Embed social sites (for example: view your friends, fans, or post to Facebook or Google+ directly from the site)
- Customize ads that appear on the site
- Generate site statistics and feeds between different sites
Below you will find links to resources that show how to set storage conditions and access cookies already stored on the user's device for the most popular web browsers.
- Firefox
- Chrome
- Internet Explorer
- Opera
- Safari
Due to the large number of technological solutions, it is not possible to publish clear instructions on how to set up storage conditions and access cookies using the settings of all available devices and software installed on them. However, in most cases, select "Tools" or "Settings" and find the section that corresponds to the configuration settings for cookies or privacy management. Detailed information is usually provided by the manufacturer of the device or browser in a manual or on its website.
